HHS Summer Reading 2016
AP Language and Composition
As per district policy, AP Language and Composition students are REQUIRED to read TWO books: one common book and one choice book (9-12_summer_reading_hs_2016.pdf). For the choice book, you are responsible for knowing the author's main argument for each chapter. Instructions for the common reading assignment are below.
The common summer reading book (REQUIRED for all students) for HHS AP Language is Fist Stick Knife Gun by Geoffrey Canada. Read the book and complete a journal entry for each chapter, including the Preface. As the book has 25 chapters, you will have 26 entries. You may type or hand-write the entries. Be prepared to turn in this assignment on the first day of class.
For each journal entry, state the main argument in one complex or complex/compound-complex sentence in the left hand column. In the right hand column, write one quote from the chapter, including the page number, and explain how the quote supports the main argument.
